人物：街頭賣唱的歌手Glen、捷克移民單身媽媽Markéta
Glen是一位在街頭賣場的歌手，正職是在父親的電器（吸塵器）維修店當店員。Markéta則是一位捷克移民，單身媽媽，和母親和女兒一起住，平時靠賣花、替人打掃等維持生計。這天，Glen一如往常地在街頭彈著吉他，神情投入的唱著歌。睜開雙眼的時候，發現Markéta正好奇的打量著自己。她很喜歡Glen剛才唱的那首歌，對于Glen歌唱的女子很是好奇，不停的追問。那是一首，他寫給離他而去的女友的歌，紀念著他那傷心的往事。
Markéta的吸塵器剛好壞了，于是拜托Glen幫她修。第二天見面的時候，女孩果真帶來了她的吸塵器。在一起吃中飯的時候，女孩告訴Glen，自己是捷克來的移民。賣花是她的工作，同時她很喜歡彈鋼琴，但鋼琴昂貴的價格是她無法負擔的，幸好有好心的樂器店老板允許她每天午后免費在店裡彈奏一小時的鋼琴。去到Markéta家裡發現，Markéta是一位單身母親，和母親女兒一起住。
也就在這天，女孩帶Glen到自己練習鋼琴的樂器店。門德爾森的曲子那么舒緩流暢的在女孩的指尖流淌，Glen看的很是入迷。于是他讓Markéta嘗試著給自己伴奏。幾次練習之后，歌曲由于女孩嫻熟的鋼琴伴奏，而蛻變成為一首偉大的曲子，而孤獨的Glen也似乎找到了些許的慰藉。
公車上，Markéta和Glen談起他前女友的事，問Glen為什么不去London找她，讓她重新回到自己身邊?

but until then I'm just a sucker of a guy隨著交往的深入，Glen漸漸喜歡上Markéta，但遭到了Markéta的拒絕。但他幷沒有放棄，而是在承認自己的唐突后，懇求Markéta繼續和自己交朋友，Markéta同意了。
一次騎摩托車出游，Glen問起Markéta丈夫的事。Markéta說他在捷克，但自己幷不需要他，自己想在也可以過的很好。
對于女友愈發的思念，讓Glen萌發了去倫敦找她的念頭，而且在那兒也可以好好的發展自己的音樂事業。在動身出發之前，他希望Markéta和充當他的伴奏和和聲，把自己寫的歌的Demo錄出來。
通過一番努力，找到了另外三個樂手，一同五人組成了一支臨時的樂隊，在一份同樣愛好音樂的銀行貸款經理的寬容下，他們利用貸款租來一個錄音棚。起初，擔當他們制作人的知名音樂人很是瞧不起他們，輕視冷落。然而，在錄完第一首歌之后，Glen和樂隊成員的傑出表現完全改變了那位制作人的態度，得到了他的尊敬。在幾天的連夜趕工后，他們的成品終于出來了。
在錄音期間，Glen多次坦言，希望Markéta和他一同前往倫敦，幷對他們的音樂事業的前景充滿希望和憧憬。Markéta很想去，但是知道不能帶上母親和女兒之后（因為她們是移民），她婉言拒絕了。及後，Markéta告訴Glen，她的丈夫要來都柏林了，以后他們一家將會一起生活。
在動身前往倫敦之前，Glen來找Markéta道別，但沒能碰上面。站在Markéta練習鋼琴的樂器店門口良久，再三猶豫之后，Glen毅然推看了門，要求店長讓他試音。
幾天後，Glen只身前往London,帶著錄好的Demo，發展自己的音樂事業。而Markéta則在不久后，收到樂器店送來的一家嶄新的鋼琴。
很簡單很簡單的故事情節，然而幷不空洞無力，完美的配樂彌補了一切的不足。情節的簡單，配以豐富出色的音樂，就像是一齣浪漫的音樂劇，兩位熱愛音樂的人相遇相知。兩位主角之間的是否愛情幷不重要，遇到知音、知己，已經是很幸運的一件事。正如一位網友評價那樣，整部影片就像是一支長長的，由多首優美歌曲構成的MTV，其中的每一首歌都是那么恰如其分，正如劇情那樣，淡淡的，很柔和，很感人。
正如宣傳海報文案上所說的那樣，“How Often Do You Find The Right Person?”，能夠遇到自己喜歡的那個帶給自己戀愛感覺的人，已經是一件幸福的事來的，因而，再遇到那個人的時候，我們一定要好好珍惜，用自己的愛與真誠去爭取。也許，很多看過影片的觀眾會覺得遺憾，他們倆沒能夠最終在一起，他們是如此的懂得，如此的默契啊，而音樂也是他們最根本的喜好與天賦。然而，我卻認為，懂得的倆人不一定得在一起的啊，畢竟Markéta同時還有著自己的家庭，即使不能結為伴侶，也無礙他們共同去追求音樂夢想的啊，只要他們愿意。
關于這部影片的題外話，不得不提的是，男主角Glen Hansard本身就是愛爾蘭樂隊The Frames的主唱和吉他手，樂隊的樂曲風格正如影片裡頭顯示的那樣，動聽柔和的Indie Pop/Folk；而女主角Markéta Irglová 則是捷克音樂家。導演John Carrey本身也曾是The Frames樂隊的Bass。Markéta Irglová 和Glen Hansard在06年的時候，就曾經合作發行了一張專輯影片的大多數歌曲均出自這張專輯和The Frames的最新專輯《The Cost》。
撇開電影不說的話，影片的Original Soundtrack本身就是一張很是出色的專輯，兩位歌手的唱功了得，簡單的配樂，簡單的樂器，但每一首歌都是那么的出色。自己尤其喜歡他們倆合唱的(也就是在樂器店裡頭Markéta Irglová 為Glen伴奏的那首）和Markéta Irglová 演唱Glen和聲的那首，以及,簡單直白的歌詞，但寓意豐富深刻，觸動著你心裡最柔然的部分，不自覺的竟流淚滿面。
